For the second Live from Wythenshawe Park show this weekend, some real Manchester legends will be in town.
In the first big performance ever held in the historic park, Noel Gallagher blew everyone away with a great set last year.
The follow-up event this year should be even bigger and better, with great bands in two days instead of just one.
New Order will be the stars at the show on August 24th, which will be their first time back in the city since 2021.
Johnny Marr, a Smiths star and Wythenshawe resident, will be there to support them. Marr was born in Ardwick but has lived in Wythenshawe since he was nine years old and went to Wythenshawe College in 1980.
Later, Marr said that moving to Wythenshawe with his family was “like we moved to Beverly Hills.” He also said that meeting guitar players there “changed his life.”
Roisin Murphy, Nadine Shah, and Kyris are also performing on Saturday.
On Sunday, Dublin’s Inhaler (with Bono’s son Elijah Hewson singing) and York’s Shed Seven will play on the same stage as Stockport’s Blossoms.
Blush’s lead singer, Tom Ogden, said, “Headlining our biggest show yet at Wythenshawe Park is going to be THE moment of our career so far.”
“It makes me think of me and Joe going to watch Oasis and The Stone Roses at Heaton Park back when we were teenagers, and how important these big summer Manchester shows are to people.”
Other bands that have been added are The K’s, TTRRUUCES, Seb Lowe, and The Guest List, who used to go to Altrincham Grammar School.
When are the shows going to happen?
The following events are scheduled for Saturday at Wythenshawe Park:
- 3-:50pm—Kyris
- Nadine Shah at 4:50 p.m.
- Roisin Murphy at 6 p.m.
- 7 p.m.: Johnny Marr
- 9:50–10:50pm: New Order
The place has a curfew at 11 pm.
And here is the schedule for Sunday:
- 2.30 to 3.15 p.m.: The Guest List
- 3.40 to 4.10 p.m.: TRRUUCES
- 4.35 to 5.05 p.m.: Seb Lowe
- 5.40 to 6.05 p.m.: The K’s
- 6.30 to 7.15 p.m. — Shed Seven
- 7.45 to 8:30 p.m.: Inhaler
- 9 to 10:30 pm: Blossoms
The best way to get to Wythenshawe Park
There are still some parking tickets that you can book ahead of time online if you want to drive.
To find the pick-up/drop-off place on Wythenshawe Road, M23 0AB, if you’re taking a taxi, look for the yellow signs north of the site.
There are three stops for trams: Wythenshawe Park, Moor Road, and Baguley. But keep in mind that the stops at Wythenshawe Park and Baguley will be closed at 10pm, so you won’t be able to use them on your way back.
Finally, it only costs £3.50 to take one of the shuttle buses back to the city heart. The service makes a loop from Sale and the city center to Wythenshawe Park. It runs from 1 pm to 8pm for trips there and from 8 pm to 1:30 am for trips back.
Are there still tickets left?
There are still a few tickets left for the show, but it’s almost sold out. Tickets for general entry start at £61.60, and tickets for VIPs start at £137.50.
This year, you can also choose to buy a full weekend ticket for £89.60, which lets you into both the New Order show on Saturday and the Blossoms show on Sunday. You can buy all of these tickets through Ticketmaster here.
