Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff, 46, went public with the story of how close he came to dying in the terrible car accident while filming Top Gear.
In a trailer for his new show, Field of Dreams, Flintoff said, “I’m lucky to be alive.”
December 13: Flintoff wrecks his car while shooting an episode of Top Gear
When Flintoff got to the Dunsfold Park Aerodrome track on December 13, 2022, it was to film an episode of Top Gear, a famous UK show that reviews cars.
Flintoff was driving a British-made Morgan Super 3 when it flipped over as he turned a corner at 22 mph on icy roads. The scary crash was caught on camera.
Flintoff had to wait a “agonizing” 45 minutes for the air aid even though he had broken ribs and badly hurt his face. It was found that the €51,049 cars did not have seatbelts installed after the accident. Flintoff was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
People who saw what happened then said it was so upsetting that some of the Top Gear crew needed counselling after the crash. The accident was brought up in Flintoff’s Instagram trailer for Field of Dreams. He said, “Something happened which changed my life forever.”
After the accident, the Top Gear star stayed out of the public eye because he had serious scars on his face. In recent months, though, Flintoff has been back on TV as the new head coach of the cricket team Superchargers. Fans have breathed a sigh of relief as they see how much better the player is.
Top Gear takes a break after Flintoff’s crash.
Flintoff is said to have worked out a €10 million deal with the BBC to make up for the two years of lost pay. On the other hand, BBC officials said it would be “inappropriate” to keep filming Top Gear after what happened.
Because of the unusual circumstances, the BBC has decided to put the UK show on hold for the time being.” The BBC is still committed to Freddie, Chris, and Paddy, who have been key to the show’s comeback since 2019, and we’re looking forward to working with them on new projects.
The studio also talked about a new review of the show’s health and safety. “While BBC Studios had followed the required BBC policies, there were important lessons that would need to be rigorously applied to future Top Gear UK productions,” they said.
After the Top Gear crash, Flintoff will work on Field of Dreams.
Flintoff has put together a group of non-cricketers to go on an adventure in India for his new show. “We’re all going to find out something about ourselves,” he says. The boys on the team were all from Preston, which is where Freddie grew up.
“From what I’ve done in my career,” he told the aspiring players in the trailer. What I’m most proud of are you guys. I’d like to show you around. India is where I want to take you. The boys need to learn how to step out of their safe zone. I really hope and pray that all of the boys make the most of these chances.
